I went to Platinum to get my hair done for a charity dinner I was attending, and I saw that it had gotten good reviews. I was getting my hair highlighted as well as styled, and I always get nervous about having new people highlight my hair, but Jose was so nice and patient when talking to me about it and helping me figure out exactly what I wanted.

The highlights were PERFECT. I LOVE them. They lightened me up (I'm blonde) but still looked natural. Also, I told Jose that I wanted a simple and fun style for the dinner I was attending, and the style was AWESOME. I would wear my hair that way every day if I could.

Jose was so nice and he made it such an enjoyable experience. I would go back to him every week if I had the money, not that this place is any more expensive that anywhere else. I'm just poor. But yeah, Jose is awesome!

I have been going to JOSE who is now at Platinum Salon for over a decade and he is as meticulous as it comes with both cut and color and unfortunately (for me) I should know as I have been to the best salons in NY, London and LA and there is no comparison. If you want to see someone that know not only the most up to date styles, but more importantly what his clients lifestyles require he is who you NEED to see!!!!!!

This was my first time at Platinum Salon and I'm so happy that I chose Matthew as my stylist. I have very thick, curly hair and have done plenty of Japanese straightening treatments. I didn't want to continue damaging my hair with the intense 5 hour chemical treatment and awful dryness that would follow when my hair would grow out. Matthew asked me plenty of questions and got a good background of my preferences and he recommended that I should try the Brazilian keratin treatment. After less than 2 hours, my hair was shiny, smooth and straight but still had volume. Matthew also gave me a great cut without having to remove much length. He added much needed character to my dull every day style and I've been so grateful for it ever since!

I was very impressed by Matthew's cut and recommendation. He really listened to what I wanted and accomplished what I've been looking for. I would definitely recommend booking an appointment with Matthew. He was so great with my hair and such a nice person too! I am definitely going back to him.

I've been going to Danny for about a year now, and I cannot say enough amazing things about him, and of course, my hair! He does a fantastic job on my blonde highlights, as well as my very curly hair which is not easy for most stylists to deal with. He is also an expert with the blowout - again, not an easy task given how curly my hair is - and is able to complete the process in 30 minutes. It always looks perfect! I don't know that I ever have had better before going to him, and am grateful for having discovered Danny at Platinum Salon.

Angela is a Peruvian hair goddess! My friend and I are from south Jersey and recently we have been going to New York every Tuesday. My friend Eileen is an aspiring opera singer and her vocal coach teaches out of the city. Well since we are in NYC every week we are trying out as many different shops, restaurants, and salons as we can handle. I mean hey why not, you only live once.

Well on one of our treks we decided to try out Platinum Salon and boy it did not disappoint. We both had Angela do our hair. She was amazing. She spent over an hour cutting and she even continued to perfect the style after the hair was dry. We have been to salons all over the world and she tops as being one of the best ever. The cuts were so good we actually just returned for trims and I took the plunge and got highlights in my bob length red hair. She did an amazing job. Somehow she got the gold tones to compliment my skin perfectly. I loved it and I give this gem a top review.

Matt has been cutting my hair for over a year! He's new to Platinum but has been cutting amazing hair for years! Ask for Matthew if you go to Platinum!

Quick, slapdash review: Matthew saved my hair's color and health. I walked in with mascara-stained cheeks and a fried head of white hair and left with amazingly multidimensional, cool blond, freshly shorn locks. I've been blonde by choice for over 10 years, and as I've moved for college and internships, I've been to colorists all over the country. I've never ever had someone be so insanely talented, so on the same page as me AND so gentle to my hair. Matthew's (very affordable) color corrective services were worth every penny.

Pros: Platinum squeezed me in on extremely short notice--30 minutes; Matthew asked really insightful questions about the size of my desired weave/streaks, tonality, my hair's color past, how I wear it daily, what's practical for me; he was honest that I'd have to lose serious length, so no surprises there; he listened while I rambled; he worked so, so quickly but only with me--no switching between multiple clients, though I wouldn't have minded. Great music in the salon, which was airy and totally relaxed.
Cons: None. Really.

After a really disastrous misunderstanding with another colorist, I was left with bleached, monochromatic white hair. Though it was a pretty baby blond and somehow cool-toned, the color was too harsh for me and much too intense for my office which errs on the conservative side of things. After an evening spent crying into a pint of Ben and Jerry's and spending too much money at Forever 21 on knit beanies, I decided I needed to fix my hair.

Thankfully, Platinum was open on Sunday, and Matthew (who, if I understand correctly, is relatively new to the space) was charged with adding color back into the allover white look, creating highlights and saving my hair's health. His method was totally genius. Here goes.

My hair was white from an allover bleaching. Matthew decided not to low-light, since my porous hair would end up looking super-contrasting, almost black-on-white, so he used my current super-light white base as the highlights. He pulled out what would be my highlights and put them in foils with CONDITIONER--how genius is that? Instead of adding color, he used the heating effect of the foils to condition my hair. Brilliant. On the rest of my hair left out of the foils, he painted on color. In the bottle, the solution was bright orange--my biggest fear. I hate yellow, brassy blond on me, and I asked four or five times for him to promise my hair would be cool, not warm toned. I decided to shut up, trust him, and not look in the mirror til my hair was rinsed, glazed, chopped off and dried.

An hour and a half later, after a 10 minute glaze and very cool rinsing (Matthew intuitively thought to use cool water because my scalp was noticeably burned), I was a beautiful cool, calm color.

I owe Matthew a lot more than the very affordable bill I paid. My hair was so unmanageable punk-white and fried that it would have been almost inappropriate to go to work. Matthew really made my life easier and made me simply feel good about myself. I'm so happy : )

Henry de la Paz - a name and a stylist as beautiful as the hair he does. The wonderful and courteous salon staff lined me up with Henry last minute when I couldn't get my hair into the dramatic style I wanted for a wedding. I came in with a short, shaggy windblown head of hair and left with a dramatic up-do inspired by Gwen Stefani but uniquely me. Henry knew exactly what do and gave me the kind of quantum physics we all want in a special occasion hairdo - it was edgy yet soft, classic yet unique, sophisticated yet youthful. By the middle of the styling I was wishing he was my date to the event! What a talented soul. When it came time to pay I was amazed at how reasonable the salon's prices were, especially for NYC. This salon is an oasis, a hub of talent and good will. I watched all the stylists around me and each customer looked happy in the busy but not hectic salon. It seemed that everyone, from the salon receptionists to the head stylist wanted each customer to be happy and to look and feel beautiful. I LOVED my experience here and I would return to say hello and to get my hair done. Top notch!

I live in the neighborhood and often walk past this salon. My regular stylist canceled my appointment, so took a chance and gave this place a shot...I'm so glad that I did!  I am a complete control freak and utterly particular about my hair...so needless to say I was nervous about trying a new place. Right as I walked in I was greeted by a super friendly receptionist and offered water, tea, or wine and took my coat. I was instantly impressed by the service.

I then met with Jose, who I have to say was simply amazing! He sat with me and went over how short I wanted my hair, how he wanted to style it, and if I was ok with his suggestions. We talked it over and he explained/showed me with me a mirror exactly what he was going to do. I felt completely comfortable with him and love my new haircut! The cut was reasonably priced which made it all the better! I will definitely be going back to Jose!!

I am picky when it comes to my hair. As a black woman, you are limited in Manhattan when it comes to finding a great hair stylist who knows about proper hair care and styling. Randy is that person to see here. She saved my hair after a period of me carelessly a salon who I will not name destroyed it with heat and over-processing my hair with relaxers. During our consultation, she told me what she was going to do to get my hair healthy again and gave me great tips for at home care. She gave me a great cut that I was super happy. I love Randy. I never left there disappointed.

Every visit I am greeted at the door by the lovely receptionist. They then proceed to ask if I care for a glass of wine, water, tea, etc. You feel quite welcomed. Salon is clean with little to no hair on the floor. Nothing disgust me more than hair everywhere in a salon. The music is usually soothing but at times can be hip to set the mood before your night out in the City (never loud and obnoxious). I would recommend this salon to anyone.

Just moved back to NYC from San Francisco and was in search of a new 'artist' for my hair. Never a easy find - so I waited until my hair was looking extra shaggy and came across Platinum. I was lucky enough to be scheduled with Regina this morning. Within the 45 min it took to wash, cut, and style my hair I was constantly entertained - even with the slight hangover I was trying handle. The haircut looks great and I'll be sure to be seeing her every 5 weeks or so - hope you do too!

The salon itself is alright - nothing too crazy - minimal products, but clean and that's always important - esp in NYC.

Attentive receptionist as well!!!

I have natural African American hair and Randy who has over 20 years of experience works wonders to bring out my natural beauty!

Not to mention her bedside manner is wonderful and professional and the location is easy and in the middle of everything! I could not give 5 stars due to the price, I'm a girl on a budget, but trust me you will never be disappointed Randy the Best!

Nuff Said................

Decided to give Platinum a shot.  Platinum's service prices are right on the money- more so during this economy.

The atmosphere is chill, the treatment is quite attentive, they have some wine for you to sip on. I'm a huge believer in 1st impressions & the receptionist set it off just right. Cordial young man with positive energy

Because I tend to have separation-anxiety when it comes to my hair (let's not forget that not just anyone knows how to deal with curly hair), I was stressin' on what result the stylist was going to give me.

Let me say that Jennifer was FA-BU-LOUSSSS! I would totally recommend her to not only my curly-haired homies, but anyone.

She was easy going, listened to my needs/apprehensions/wants & whole-heartedly delivered the goods.

My healthy-lookin' hair is majorly thankful for the great treatment.  My curly hair has FINALLY found a (affordable) home!

I absolutely LOVE Platinum New York. I go to the new one at the Hotel on Rivington.  I got extensions done by Daryle and he is AMAZING! The atmosphere is great and the receptionist will definitely keep you entertained...he is fab!  Be prepared to spend some money but it is well worth it.

To preface this: I rarely have my hair cut professionally and will not / can not spend a fortune - anything over 50 is too much for me.

I came here once before, maybe in February? I can't remember. Either way, my cut my great but my stylist at the time so-so. She was super nice until she received my tip - for a $50 hair cut I gave her $15, which is 30%. She gave me an offended look and made me feel SUPER awkward (I'm awkward enough as it is so I don't need any help in that department!). Needless to say, I will not return to her. I was not about to write off the salon, however.

After receiving a text message promotion, I came back this week and my overall experience was 10x better.

Chloe washed, cut and styled my hair and did so without the use of any hair products outside of shampoo and conditioner (by request) - and it turned out amazingly! She did a fantastic job on my fine and long hair and taught me how to recreate the look. She even showed me which brush to buy. Considering my lack of hair care skills, this advice was easy to implement without any sort of gel or spray aid.

It was wonderful to work with a stylist that was, not only nice and very open and patient about creating the look I wanted, but also willing to give out hair tips to maintain the health of my hair.

Henry, will you be my new BFF? For serious, I've never had such a great time at a salon! The moment I walked in, the girl at the desk was super nice, offered me water/a glass of wine (I had coffee a la Cafe Pedlar, so I was just fine)- I was 10min early, and didn't even have to wait.

Henry sat me down, and we talked hair for a bit. I'm not too picky, or too crazy when it comes to my hair, but he agreed with what I wanted done, and even made some great suggestions.

The wash was fabulous- (granted, he admitted he was giving me a longer shampoo so he could listen to some drama happening behind us haha) and the scalp massage is something doctors should order on a daily basis.

He really took his time to do a great job, and the conversation was effortless- not as awkward as it can sometimes be at salons. He styled it beautifully (I only wish it held up in the heat!) and gave me awesome suggestions on how to do it myself (I'm handicapped when it comes to styling my hair, matching my clothes, and cooking- really, I'm a terrible female).

The cut was discounted- but I would've certainly paid full price for such a great experience and beautiful cut.

Next time I'm coming armed with friendship bracelets for me and my new BFF, Henry.
